masseffect3_02If you’re a fan of the Mass Effect saga, you’ll be excited to hear that the next installment in this popular series has reached the “Gold” stage of development and might be launched later this year.

Despite Shepard’s efforts to destroy the Reapers conquest, BioWare has stated that Mass Effect 3 will be the game to conclude Sam Shepard’s trilogy of intergalactic adventures. Despite rumors of a fourth game floating around the internet, BioWare seems steady on ending this once in a lifetime game.

This action role-playing game series has made significant strides and accomplishments in the industry, separating its self from its competition. Originally an Xbox 360 exclusive title, Electronic Arts publishing house didn’t consider changing the exclusive title until Mass Effect 2 came into the picture.

Sony welcomed the Mass Effect saga with open arms and BioWare was instantly rewarded with an increase in fans and sales that lead to the development of the third title. It was only a matter of time before a game of this magnitude was on the most popular consoles, steadily gaining a larger fan base.

This tidbit of news was announced via the popular social network Twitter; where Casey Hudson [Executive Producer of the series] tweeted,

“After an awesome effort by our team, I’m proud to announce #MassEffect3 is officially GOLD!”

The tweet didn’t stop there either, Hudson continued to tease and play with fans emotions dropping lines like, “Many surprises await you this week and beyond.”

I’m sure these surprises will keep the fans guessing until the release date is announced, and they forget all the questions they asked preoccupying themselves with pre-ordering the collector’s edition. It would be really awesome if BioWare decided to release a trilogy edition, showcasing all three games in their galactic glory.

A good number of trailers have been released as well, along with details showing what customers who pre-order their copies of the game would get.

Last year, numerous hints were dropped regarding the next entry and it created a general buzz for the franchise. Last year, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3] a demo was revealed to the public that dazzled and awed diehard fans. Weapon customization has been upgraded and will make another appearance, along with character customization that has been given an overhaul. This time around when you level up Sam’s class skill, instead of having a predetermined bonus the player will be given the option to select which areas they want increased

In video game development, the term “Gold” signifies that the game has finished all stages of development and is in the process of being put onto discs and being prepared for shipment. We don’t know how long Mass Effect 3 was in development, but we do know that AAA games don’t get made without some elbow grease. Stay tuned into GamerGaia as we keep you updated with all Mass Effect news, being a fan of the series myself I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.
