Monster Hunter Tri G sales are still going strong
Capcom have released their 3rd quarter results and it seems that Monster Hunter is STILL selling strong. The game which is very popular in Japan shipped a lot of units on launch and it is no surprise to see it steadily selling. Read on for more.
It comes as no surprise that Monster Hunter Tri G is still selling well this far after release on 20th December 2011. The game has been bought up by fans like it was never going to exist again and with a Monster Hunter 4 in the pipe line it is just adding to the craze. The game which has sold 1.2 million units since its December release strengthens the Monster Hunter franchise with another successful handheld version of the game.
In early January it was reported that "Monster Hunter Tri-G has sold 1.08 million copies as of January 8" and becoming the first 3DS game to break one million sales (the other being Super Street Fighter 4, which is also a Capcom property), and not be made by Nintendo themselves. However, unlike Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario Land 3D, Monster Hunter Tri G has only been released in Japan so far, and considering the amount of 3DS' sold in Japan is around four million or more, that's rather impressive.
The games good sales prove even better for Nintendo; Monster Hunter Tri G was also promoted as one of the flagship titles to help sell the 3DS Circle Pad Pro. It's the first game to support the add-on, with Resident Evil: Revelations, Kid Icarus and Metal Gear Solid 3D also shipping with enabled support. Monster Hunter could have been bought in Japan add-on, or in a special edition bundle, containing the game and a cool looking white 3DS.
Monster Hunter 4 for the 3DS has also announced. Meanwhile, people are still exclaiming the need for a Monster Hunter game on the PS Vita. While nothing is officially announced for a PS Vita instalment, Philippe Cardone, CEO of PlayStation France has suggested that one will release soon, and that "Had it been there right out in Japan, the story would have been different. The game console at launch will be the European better than it was for Japan."
It is possible that they didn’t want two of their own games released and competing at the same time, Monster Hunter can be credited for some of the success the PSP experienced in Japan, after all the three instalments released on the handheld totalled over six million sales.
Many have also wonder about Capcom’s reluctance to release a HD Monster Hunter Game on Xbox 360 and/or Playstation 3. Monster Hunter Tri was meant to be a Playstation 3 release, but Capcom jumped over to Nintendo’s Wii console. And before you say it, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD doesn’t count.
As Capcom keeps celebrating the game’s success in Japan, 3DS owners in North American and Europe will have to wait and see whether the game will be released internationally, especially considering that 3DS games are region locked.
