Miyamoto Confirms he is Working on an Original Title

Legendary game developer Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that he is working on a new “original” IP in addition to already-established franchises like Pikmin 3 for the Wii U. The Mario creator also cleared up rumors about his alleged retirement from Nintendo and what he thinks of all the pressure that he is under to create something great. Check out the news below.
Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the most famous names in video game development and for good reason. He created Donkey Kong, Zelda and Mario (to name a few) and is a huge reason for Nintendo’s rise to power and continued success since the 1980s. His recent work on video games is no less impressive with games like the Super Mario Galaxy games and Super Mario 3D Land under his belt.
Miyamoto has officially confirmed, via an interview with Zoom.in, that he is working on both familiar titles like Pikmin 3 for the upcoming Wii U and an original title that has yet to be announced. Miyamoto has had his hand in quite a few additions to his already-established franchises in recent memory so it will be interesting to see what he will accomplish with a brand-new IP.
Miyamoto commented on the amount of pressure that he feels when he tries to come out with something new and his desire to always make something great.
"People have come to expect a lot from me. This certainly makes me feel some pressure. But if you ask me, 'Is it too much pressure to try to come out with something new?' I have to say no, I'm enjoying myself. When I make something I always try to do my best."
Miyamoto also cleared up rumors that he was slated to retire from Nintendo soon, assuring gamers that he is nowhere near to retirement but that Nintendo is preparing for the day when he needs to retire. He also mentioned the reassuring dynamic that new developers will carry the torch after he is gone.
"I really appreciate all the kindness given the kind of comments that I made. But to be clear, I have no intention to retire at all. I'm not old enough to think about retirement right now. But everyone has to retire at some point. I wanted to make clear that we are preparing for that.
The team behind Super Mario 3D Land were once kids that loved the original. Now they're kind of paying homage in order to create the latest iteration for today's customers. The cycle is going to remain so that good characters and franchises can just go on forever.”

These reassuring words mean that not only will Miyamoto be around for quite some time, but that Nintendo will be able to move forward with popular franchise like Mario and Zelda even after Miyamoto has called it quits. Miyamoto’s loss would be felt of course but it seems that he is confident in the abilities of the upcoming game designers.
Nothing is really known about Miyamoto’s original title that he is working on (not even what system it will be for) but it is likely that we will find out about it in some way soon. Possibly at CES or we might have to wait until E3 for an official announcement. Whatever it is, it will be a lot of fun to watch it come together.
