Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Heading to Vita with Touch Controls
Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima revealed has revealed via Twitter the existence of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the Playstation Vita. According to reports, the first image released by Kojima also reveals that the game will make use of the system’s touch controls. Read on for more information.
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection also takes advantage of a new feature called “Transfarring” (weird spelling, we know). This feature allows players to switch the game between home and portable consoles for continued play on the go. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker already allows for “transfarring” between the Playstation 3 and PSP. Once the Playstation Vita is released, players will be able to “transfar” their Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater games between that system and the Playstation 3.
The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is currently set for release on the Playstation Vita sometime in 2012 worldwide. By adding touch screen controls and portability with the Playstation Vita, those who already purchased the collection for their Playstation 3 will likely be interested in picking it up again for the Playstation Vita.
Hopefully the release of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the Playstation Vita marks the beginning of many console games making their way to Sony’s latest handheld. It has the power to handle these titles, so bringing them to the handheld should be an obvious choice. By releasing more console experiences on the handheld, Sony may be able to attract a larger, more dedicated audience to the device.
Despite many claiming that brining the console experience to handhelds is a bad idea, it may work in Sony’s favour. With the PSP being dedicated to the same type of experience, players already know what they are getting into when they purchase a Playstation handheld. Those who pick one up will expect games like the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection to be available. If Sony had attempted to grab the casual market, it might have confused consumers. If Sony can release more games like the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the Playstation Vita, they may have a fighting chance at taking over the handheld console market.
