Sony has apologized to users for the recent Playstation Store download errors that have left many unable to download content they have purchased. The company reassures that engineers are hard at work trying to fix the problem. Read on for more information.

Sony’s Playstation Network is no stranger to errors and downtime.  The most infamous of these cases was the “Playstation Network Security Breach and Outage” that affected users worldwide in 2011.  This outage began on April 20, 2011 and resulted in the service being offline until May 14, 2011 when Sony began regionally restoring the service. During the downtime, certain downloaded Capcom games and many streaming video services including Hulu and Netflix were not accessible.

Following last weekend's maintenance of the North American and European Playstation Network, users in Europe have reported problems downloading content they have purchased over the service. Some have had their transaction lists completely disappear while others are simply unable to download games and DLC that they have purchased.

Sony has posted on the Official European Playstation forum to make a statement on the situation:

"I just wanted to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused so far, and to reaffirm that our engineers are working to get this resolved," wrote online support co-ordinator "RabidWalker". As soon as we receive an update on the status of this, we will let you know."

It goes without saying that this is a problem Sony will have to fix. User’s opinion of Sony will come down to not if they fix it, but when. Each day that users experience this problem in Europe, they are more likely to look down upon the company even further. They are also more likely to purchase their downloadable content through Xbox Live opposed to PSN. However, if Sony acts quickly they can bring people back and still have an active downloading community for their service.

To attract even more users back after this latest mishap, the company may want to offer some form of incentive for people to return as well. The incentive does not have to be as extravagant as a free game or Playstation Plus service like last time, but maybe a free download of a relatively low-profile game, just to restore the faith of users in the security and stability of the service in which they will be downloading from. While Sony’s network may not be as fast in most cases, it does offer a great service. If fans can be assured safety and stability, it is likely that they will continue to get their downloadable content from the Playstation Network opposed to a competitor.
