Sony's PlayStation Vita, the second platform planned for the eighth-generation of video game consoles and handhelds, finally has a  release date for North America and Europe. It may not be launching this year unless you live in Japan, but the good news is both North America and Europe will be getting the Vita on the same day.

The PlayStation Vita, the successor to the PlayStation Portable and handheld competitor to the Nintendo 3DS, is planned for release on February 22nd, 2012. Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, announced the release date for North America and Europe at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, California. The launch window lineup hasn't been fully disclosed, but popular titles like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Tekken X Street Fighter  and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 seem to be very likely candidates, to name a select few.
