This weekend the London Excel centre will play host to the UK’s biggest anime, games, film and TV convention, the MCM Expo. With the huge line up of games heading our way in the closing months of this year, this year’s expo will feature some of the biggest titles to ever grace the event. Read on for a special gamer’s preview of the event, including what to look for if you’re attending as well as what we’ll be bringing to you from the Expo.
Destruction is good. It allows us as gamers to modify and change the gaming environment as we see fit, creating a unique gameplay experience depending on how you want to destroy the immediate area around you. It is with this mentality that Red Faction: Armageddon seems to be executed, and according to the game’s designer, “destruction is at the core of our game. Everything man made can be destroyed.”

There’s a veritable buzz in the air at the London MCM this week – gamers from all corners of the expo are flocking to the Nintendo booth, eager to get their hands on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS. I was one of these gamers – I stood in line for over twenty minutes (and that was when the queue had shortened considerably!) and finally, after a long-ish wait, I had a 3DS in my hands and was prepared to play Zelda for the first time in 3D. The question is: was I impressed?

Last week we revealed the new scoring system in place for F.E.A.R. 3, and now at London's MCM Expo, Senior Editor Dan Curtis and I managed to get some good quality time playing the cooperative mode on Warner Bros. Interactive's latest first-person shooter creation. Now, if you aren't a fan of survival horror because you value your sleep far too much, then experiencing this via co-op is the only way you're going to make it through this madness.

A lot of multiplayer nowadays gets accused of being a Call of Duty clone. Countless titles end up with the same old ‘shoot anything that moves, earn experience’ system that you either hate, love or think is a bit samey. F.E.A.R. 3, however, isn’t one of these titles – instead they’ve innovated with their choice of multiplayer component and actually created a rather robust and varied multiplayer experience that, while it borrows some elements from other games, feels like a fresh experience altogether.

We're witnessing relentless gunfire noises, roars from crowds and hefty explosions from the innards of every single gaming booth here at the MCM. We are also frequently bewildered, amazed and can wholeheartedly respect the efforts from people portraying their favourite, most loved and cherished gaming characters.

Child of Eden is a curious character. It’s a bizarre, rather psychedelic take on a first person shooter that is billed as the ‘spiritual successor’ to the Dreamcast’s highly popular REZ, utilizing Microsoft’s Kinect in a very appealing, unique way. I was a bit indifferent towards the title until I saw it in action today at MCM - Ubisoft representative Pete Closs took to the stage, the many vivid colours and patterns that make up Child of Eden’s core gameplay showcased behind him as he began hyping up the title. I began, as my eyes swam with colour, to be converted.
