"Do a barrel roll!" Probably one of the most famous (if not obnoxious) quotes from video game history is going to be making a triumphant return to haunt your dreams once again. That's right, Star Fox 64 is getting the 3DS treatment and being remade. Well, it's more of a "rearrangement" actually.
The 3DS seems to be following suit with the DS and pulling from Nintendo's extensive backlog of A+ titles for remakes. What's good is that the 3DS is using games that haven't already been remade. Star Fox Command for the DS was given a relatively positive reception, but Star Fox 64, the game that introduced rumble to the Nintendo world, is surely going to fare much better than it's DS counter part.
A whole lot about this game is not entirely known. When it was initially shown at E3 2010, it was almost a straight port of the 64 version, but soon after, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata promised that the game would be more of a "new arrangement" of the original.
So, the 3DS obviously has impressive 3D features, but it also supports motion control. Somehow, those two don't seem to mesh very well seeing as how the 3DS requires the user to remain withing the minuscule sweet spot in order for the 3D effect to be seen.
Finally, do a barrel roll on over to the the Star Fox 64 3DS official website you will be treated to a rather lengthy, multi-screen trailer of the team charging down a corridor to their ships and a large banner that drops a massive 7-14-2011 as a release date. Whether that is worldwide or just Japan is yet to be seen.
